PGK1 enzyme shows promise in fighting Parkinson's disease

Researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine have found that an enzyme called PGK1 plays a critical role in producing chemical energy in brain cells. Boosting the activity of PGK1 may help the brain fight against energy deficits that can contribute to Parkinson's disease. Timothy Ryan, Ph.D., the senior author of the study, expressed optimism about the potential for new Parkinson's treatments stemming from this research.
