**Hurricane Helene Post Storm Update for Marion County**
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management is currently operating at Level 2 as recovery efforts continue following Hurricane Helene. Officials are focused on debris removal, clearing roadways, and restoring utilities in the area.
The Citizen Information Line will close today, Friday, September 27, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. Residents can call 352-369-7500 until that time to report downed trees and power lines.
Shelter operations are underway, with plans to demobilize the West Port shelter. A small number of citizens are being assisted in returning to their homes, or to the Department of Health if further assistance is required.
Normal operations for all government offices and services will resume on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Residents are advised to take safety precautions during recovery efforts. They should stay clear of downed power lines, especially near water, and avoid standing under damaged tree limbs or power lines. It is also important not to drive or walk over downed power lines. If a power line falls on a vehicle, passengers should remain inside until help arrives and report the incident by calling 352-732-9111.
People are cautioned against driving or walking through standing water, as hidden dangers may lie beneath the surface.
Additionally, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office has a limited supply of tarps available for citizens. These can be picked up at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion, located at 2232 NE Jacksonville Rd. in Ocala, while supplies last.
