**Hurricane Helene Post Storm Update from Marion County**
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management is currently operating at a Level 2 status as they assess the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Efforts are ongoing to remove debris, clear roadways, and restore utilities in the area.
The Citizen Information Line will close today, Friday, September 27, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. Residents can continue to report downed trees and power lines by calling 352-369-7500 until that time.
Officials are in the process of demobilizing the West Port shelter and are working to return some residents to their homes. For those requiring further assistance, arrangements are being made with the Department of Health.
All government offices and services are set to resume normal operations on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Residents are advised to take precautions while recovery efforts continue. It is essential to avoid approaching downed power lines, especially those near water. Individuals should also avoid standing under damaged tree limbs or power lines, as these may still be unstable.
If downed power lines fall on a vehicle, passengers should remain inside until emergency help arrives. It is crucial not to touch the vehicle in this situation. To report such incidents, call 352-732-9111.
Residents are cautioned against driving or walking through standing water, as hidden dangers may exist beneath the surface.
The Sheriff’s Office has a limited supply of tarps available for residents. Those in need can pick them up at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion, located at 2232 NE Jacksonville Rd. in Ocala, while supplies last.
