Soldiers Inspire Hot Wells Students Through Shared Experiences

Staff Report / SAlocal.org

Soldiers from the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment of the 56th Signal Battalion visited Hot Wells Middle School in San Antonio, Texas, as part of the San Antonio Independent School District's (SAISD) monthly guest speaker events. During the visit, some soldiers shared personal stories about their childhood challenges and the reasons behind their decision to join the U.S. Army. They discussed their military experiences, the places they have traveled, the educational benefits they received, and how joining the Army has impacted their lives.

Other soldiers engaged with students about E-sports and the various sports opportunities available within the military, fostering discussions among the students.

In addition, the 56th Signal Battalion unit donated backpacks and school supplies for the students at Hot Wells Middle School.

Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Guevara explained the importance of these events, stating, "I try to incorporate monthly guest speakers with different backgrounds. This provides students familiarization with different types of career paths such as two-year or four-year degrees, trade school certification, or even the military."
