Cooking has been identified as the leading cause of home fires, according to the City of Akron, Ohio. As part of Fire Prevention Week 2024, local officials are offering tips to help prevent such incidents in homes.

Residents are advised to stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling, broiling, or boiling food. If leaving the kitchen, it is recommended to turn off the burner.
