Free Smoke Detectors Available for Akron Residents!

Staff Report / Akronlocal.org

The Akron Fire Department is promoting fire safety during Fire Prevention Week 2024. They emphasize the importance of smoke detectors in homes. Residents are advised to test their smoke detectors monthly, change batteries every six months, and replace the detectors every ten years. Additionally, it is recommended that there be at least one smoke detector on every level of the home. In the event that a smoke alarm sounds, individuals should immediately go outside and stay outside.

In a partnership with the Red Cross, the Akron Fire Department offers a Smoke Detector Program, providing smoke detectors free of charge to the residents of Akron. The department will also install the detectors for residents. For more information, citizens can call 330-375-2197.
