Teresa Dwiggins: Innovative Math Teacher Celebrated This Week
Staff Report / apexlocal.org
This week's APSF Shoutout highlights Teresa Dwiggins, a math teacher at Middle Creek High School in Apex, North Carolina. Mrs. Dwiggins is recognized for her innovative teaching methods that engage all her students, particularly Multilingual Learners.
To address language barriers, she uses real-time translation during her lessons. Mrs. Dwiggins speaks into a microphone while her instruction is linked to a Promethean board. The lessons are translated into Spanish through Google Translator, allowing students to follow along in their native language.
The recognition of Mrs. Dwiggins is supported by local businesses, including FRESH. Local Ice Cream and McDonald's of Apex, as well as Harnett County. The initiative is part of a celebration by the Wake County Public School System and the Town of Apex Government, along with the Middle Creek High School PTSA.
