Akron Violent Crime Declines Mark Significant Progress

Akron has reported a significant decline in violent crime from 2023 to the year-to-date in 2024. There has been a 33% decrease in the number of shootings and shots fired calls. Additionally, the number of shootings into a habitation has decreased by 38%. Overall, there is a 25% reduction in offenses where a firearm was used.
The City of Akron's Mayor's Office emphasized the importance of public safety, noting that these reductions mark a significant milestone in their efforts to make the community safer. The Mayor also commended the Akron Police Department and the community for their successful collaboration on addressing violent crime.
