Nominations Extended for Dr. A. Brad Truax Awards

Staff Report / Sanlocal.org

The San Diego HIV Planning Group has extended the deadline for nominations for the annual Dr. A. Brad Truax Awards to Sunday, October 20, 2024. The awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic in San Diego.

The main award, the Dr. A. Brad Truax Award, will be presented to one individual selected by a committee of past award winners. The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, December 6, 2024, during a reception honoring all nominees.

In addition to the main award, three additional awards will be given in the following categories:

- HIV Education, Prevention, and/or Counseling and Testing

- HIV Care, Treatment, and/or Support Services

- HIV Planning, Advocacy, and/or Policy Development

To submit a nomination, individuals must complete a nomination form through Google Forms and include any relevant supporting information. Nominations should be submitted by the updated deadline of Sunday, October 20, 2024.

Eligible nominees include volunteers, board members, or staff members who have made significant contributions to the battle against HIV/AIDS in the San Diego community. If a nominee is employed by an HIV service provider, the nomination must pertain to services provided beyond their regular job responsibilities.

For assistance, individuals can contact HPG.HHSA@sandiegocounty.ca.gov with the subject line “Truax Nomination.” The nomination form can be accessed at bit.ly/truax-nominations.

The awards pay tribute to Dr. A. Brad Truax's legacy, recognizing his commitment to HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment in San Diego. Each nominee will be acknowledged as a Community Award Recipient.
