The City of Akron is celebrating National Native American Heritage Month in November 2024. This month is dedicated to honoring the traditions, languages, and stories of Native American and Alaskan Native communities. The observance began in 1990 when President George H.W. Bush approved a resolution to designate November as National American Indian Heritage Month. The local government encourages residents to participate in the celebration and support the Native community throughout the month.
