Biology Major Explores Careers in Cosmetics Industry

Staff Report / sanfranlocal.org

Sheridan Moore, a biology major with a chemistry minor at the University of San Francisco (USF), participated in a career trek organized by the university’s Career Services Center. Her interest in the biotechnology involved in cosmetics product development motivated her to join the trek.

Moore stated that the experience reinforced her belief that there are opportunities for women with science backgrounds in the cosmetics industry, specifically in roles related to formulations and science communications.

The trek included visits to Benefit Cosmetics and Tatcha, both located in San Francisco, and attracted a record number of applicants, according to Julia Hing, the director of employer relationships at the Career Services Center. The event highlights a growing trend in the cosmetics and beauty sector, which was reported as the fastest-growing retail category in the U.S. last year, with consumer spending reaching $94.36 billion, as noted by eMarketer.
