The Optimist Club of Akron honored Darryl Hickman of the Akron Fire Department with the 2024 Optimist Firefighter/Medic of the Year Award at its annual luncheon yesterday. Hickman, a 31-year veteran of the department, received the award for his commitment to public safety and consistent professionalism. Fire Chief Leon Henderson presented a proclamation declaring Tuesday, November 12, as "Firefighter/Medic Darryl Hickman Day" in the city of Akron.
