The San Francisco Public Library invites the community to participate in its "One City, One Book" program featuring a special event titled "Echoes of Maya: A Celebration of Voice and Verse." This event will take place on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the Koret Auditorium, located in the Main Library at 100 Larkin Street, San Francisco, CA 94102.

The celebration honors the influential legacy of poet and author Maya Angelou, presenting an afternoon filled with poetry, music, and reflection. The program will feature a lineup of notable creators:

- **Dorothy Lazard**: A Bay Area historian and author discussing Angelou's impact on history and culture.

- **Avotcja**: A poet, musician, and DJ, who mixes jazz, blues, and urban rhythms; she will perform with musicians Sandi Poindexter, Bana Ken Okulolo, and Francis Wong.

- **Tureeda Mikell**: An award-winning poet and activist, known for her transformative storytelling, referred to as a “word magician.”

- **Darius Simpson**: A poet and performer from Akron, Ohio, whose works advocate for liberation.

- **Raymond Nat Turner**: A poet from New York known as the "Town Crier," who combines jazz and poetry to inspire social justice.

The event is curated by Dr. Kim McMillon, a producer, playwright, and editor.

As part of the event, attendees will receive copies of Maya Angelou's book and a custom-designed tote bag while supplies last. This event serves as a tribute to Angelou’s enduring legacy in art and culture.
