**Akron Firefighters Memorial Honors Fallen Heroes**
Akron, Ohio – A memorial honoring Akron firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty stands as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by those who protect the community. The memorial lists the names of 15 firefighters who died while serving the city, with the earliest recorded loss dating back to April 5, 1867.
The inscription on the memorial reads, “Those who proudly face the challenge of protecting the life and property of our citizens,” and “In memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice.” Below it, the names and dates of the fallen are listed:

- Dwight Hinman – December 16, 1952

The Akron Fire Department reports an average of 139 calls per day. These emergency calls are projected to total more than 50,619 by the end of 2024. The department continues to operate tirelessly, providing critical services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long.
This memorial and the dedicated work of Akron firefighters pay tribute to their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the community, honoring both current heroes and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
