Akron Fire Department Celebrates Major Achievements

**New Fire Station, Promotions, and Awards Highlight Akron Fire Department’s Busy Year**

The Akron Fire Department (AFD) marked a series of major achievements recently, underscoring its commitment to public safety in the city. Among the highlights, AFD opened Fire Station 12 in the Wallhaven neighborhood, enhancing emergency response capabilities in the area.

In leadership news, Leon Henderson was officially sworn in as Akron Fire Chief, taking on the role to continue leading the department forward. Several personnel within the department also earned promotions, including Chief Sierjie Lash, who made history as the first woman to achieve the rank of District Chief for AFD.

Recognizing exemplary service, crews from Medic 13 and Engine 8 received the EMS Star of Life Award, honoring their outstanding efforts in emergency medical care. Additionally, the department celebrated the addition of 41 new firefighter/medics, bolstering its ranks to better serve the Akron community.

These milestones demonstrate the department's dedication to enhancing public safety and recognizing the contributions of its hardworking team.
