Human Trafficking Awareness Day: Stay Informed, Vigilant
Staff Report / Akronlocal.org
**January 11th: Human Trafficking Awareness Day**
January 11th marks Human Trafficking Awareness Day, serving as a reminder to stay vigilant and informed about the signs of human trafficking. This important observance raises awareness to prevent and combat trafficking, and to assist victims.
The Akron Police Department in Ohio provides critical resources and information on recognizing the signs of human trafficking. These include:
- A person displaying disorientation, confusion, fear, submissiveness, or timidity.
- Signs of physical or mental abuse, including denial of food, water, sleep, or medical care.
- Individuals who appear coached on what to say, are frequently in the company of someone they defer to, or appear to not be in control of their own situation.
If you suspect human trafficking, report immediately by calling 1-866-347-2423. For additional information, visit the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services' webpage at [Ohio Anti-Human Trafficking Overview](https://ocjs.ohio.gov/anti-human-trafficking/overview).
By knowing the signs and taking proactive measures, communities can work together to combat human trafficking.
