Akron Extends Hours for Warming Center Services

**Warming Center Hours Extended in Akron**
The City of Akron has announced extended hours at the Summit Lake Community Center, located at 380 W Crosier St., to provide a warm space for residents in need. From Sunday, January 19, through Wednesday, January 22, the center will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Outside these dates, the community center will follow its normal business hours.
Additionally, the Emergency Overnight Shelter at 111 East Voris St. will be open for overnight services from Saturday, January 18, through Wednesday, January 22. Operating hours for the shelter during this period will be 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. The shelter is closed on Thursday and Friday this week but will reopen as scheduled on Saturday evening.
The city will continue to monitor weather conditions and may adjust schedules as required. Starting Thursday, January 23, unless further updates are provided, the Summit Lake Community Center will resume standard operating hours.
For those looking to assist, donations of winter gloves and hand warmers are needed and can be dropped off at the Peter Maurin Center, 1096 S. Main St., Akron, OH. Donation times are Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Volunteers and additional donations can also be coordinated online at https://bit.ly/40xnEJA.
