**Akron Honors Challenger Astronaut Dr. Judith Resnik on Anniversary of Tragedy**
On January 28, 1986, the Challenger space shuttle tragedy took the lives of seven astronauts, including Akron native Dr. Judith Resnik. Today, the City of Akron, Ohio, remembers and honors her remarkable contributions as part of this historic crew.
Dr. Judith Resnik was a trailblazer as both the second woman and the first Jewish American to fly in space. Before her untimely death, Dr. Resnik made history aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1984. She was an accomplished engineer, a skilled pilot, and a proud representative of her Ohio hometown.
