Geneva Firefighters Urge Caution Ahead Of July 4th

Geneva Firefighters Local 2859 in Geneva, NY has issued reminders and safety tips ahead of the Fourth of July weekend. The group emphasizes that fireworks should only be handled by professionals. Data provided by the organization noted that 12 deaths occurred due to fireworks in 2019 and 18 in 2020, along with 15,600 emergency room visits in 2020 number related to fireworks injuries. Approximately 66% of these injuries occur around July 4th.

The firefighters also pointed out the fire risks associated with fireworks, citing that over 19,500 fires each year are started by them. They further noted that children under the age of 5 suffer more than half of the injuries, and that sparklers can burn at temperatures between 1,200 and 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Geneva Firefighters Local 2859 urged residents to consider neighbors, especially those who are elderly, veterans, or who have young children, by informing them about planned firework displays. They also reminded residents to keep animals and pets safe during the celebrations.
