Hobart Hockey Three-Peat Fulfills Championship Promise

At Water St. Cafe in Geneva, NY, 92‐year‐old Nicholas Reres and his wife Betty visited for lunch. The couple, who managed the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Rec Center (Field House) for more than twenty years, were excited to see the newly expanded "Team Room."

During their visit, Mr. Reres met members of the Hobart Hockey team who were having breakfast in the Team Room. He shared a story from his early days when he first met coach Mark Taylor. According to Mr. Reres, on one of his first days as the hockey coach at Hobart, he shook hands with Taylor and remarked that if Taylor became a winning coach, he might move on to other opportunities. Coach Taylor responded by firmly stating that if he became a winning coach, he would remain at Hobart until winning a national championship.

Over two decades later, the Hobart Statesmen Hockey team earned a Three-Peat National Championship record, fulfilling the promise made by Coach Taylor. A photograph was taken of Mr. Reres and the players in front of the National Championship 2023 Banner. The pictures were later shared with Coach Taylor and Mr. Reres's niece.
