Geneva Corrects Faulty Water Service Address Mailings
City of Geneva officials have announced that some mailings titled “Important Information About Your Water Service Line” may have been sent with incorrect water service address information. The incorrect addresses appear on the letters, and City staff have confirmed that this error is being corrected. A second letter, labeled “Corrected,” will be mailed soon.
The notice explains that a water service line is the pipe connecting homes or businesses to the public drinking water system. The City’s water service line inventory, which is part of its compliance with the US EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revision, shows that at some addresses, the material of the water service line has not been identified and may be lead. City officials are taking steps to inform residents whose water service lines could be lead.
Residents are asked to check the address listed on the second page of their notice. If it does not match the property they own, no further action is needed until the corrected mailing is received. Customers with matching property addresses should follow the instructions provided in the letter.
City staff are available to verify the material of water service lines in residents’ homes. The verification requires an appointment and access to the water meter and takes about 15 minutes. Customers can also scan a QR code on the letter for step-by-step instructions on identifying their water line materials and submitting the information to the City.
For more information or to set up an appointment, residents can email GenevaWater@geneva.ny.us, call 315-789-3101, or visit the Engineering Office at City Hall, 47 Castle Street, on the 3rd floor.
