Scranton Students Celebrate Coffee Cart, Show Choir Season.
The Scranton School District reported two notable student programs this week: the South Scranton Bean Company coffee cart at South Intermediate and the Scranton High Show Choir's season.
The board welcomed representatives from the South Scranton Bean Company. Students in Ms. Margaret Flynn and Mrs. Tracy Stevens’ class operated a coffee cart on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for staff at South Intermediate. Assistant Principal Shaun Rohland said he was inspired after seeing similar efforts at other schools. The bean company began with one urn donated by Aramark and has since expanded to offer different creamers, flavored syrups, and sugar, plus a selection of tea and baked goods made by teachers or donated by local businesses. The students set up, operate, and clean up the cart, and they charge a small amount for each item, with all proceeds returning to the classroom. A video celebrating the students who work on the coffee cart was produced by Ms. Flynn and Mrs. Stevens.
The district also welcomed members of the Scranton High Show Choir, led by Ronelle Barrett and Miranda Styborski. This season, the show choir competed in five events across the East Coast, with Glitter and Gold and First Edition placing in the top three at every competition. The group earned additional awards such as best band, best performer, best soloist, best vocals, and best choreography. Throughout the season, students were recognized as best soloist or best performer: Glitter and Gold members Arianis Perguero, Denia Stubbs, Ziara Thompson, MahaGohney Bryant, and Geneva Tulenan; First Edition members Christian Rodriguez, Violet Martin, and Denia Stubbs. Glitter and Gold earned Grand Champion honors and remained undefeated in the New England circuit. Geneva Tulenan was named Best Soloist in the Unisex Division for the entire season. Knights Amplified went undefeated in both the Unisex and Tier II Mixed Divisions. First Edition consistently placed in the top three during finals rounds at out-of-circuit competitions, outperforming all choirs in West Virginia and all Tier II Choirs in Ohio on their home turf.
We always have amazing things happening in Scranton!! Thank you to South Scranton Bean Co. and Scranton Show Choir for being here this evening!
