Dame Louise Richardson delivers Hobart and William Smith commencement address

Geneva, N.Y. — Hobart and William Smith Colleges hosted the 2026 commencement, where Carnegie Corporation President Dame Louise Richardson delivered the 2026 commencement address. Richardson is described as a prominent scholar of foreign policy and the first woman to lead Oxford University.

“We achieve nothing alone. It doesn’t matter if you want to make a book or a building, a new polymer or a new digital platform, you are going to have to find those other people who will want to do it with you. The students and educators of this college recognize that collaboration, giving and creating opportunities for others is the basis of the good society and the well-lived life,” she said.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges awarded Dame Richardson an honorary degree and the Elizabeth Blackwell Award for her distinguished career and service to humanity.
