The Akron Fire Department has launched a holiday campaign to promote fire safety in Akron, Ohio. Fire stations across the city will display wreaths lit with red lights. The wreaths will remain fully lit with red bulbs until a fire incident occurs in that station's district. For each fire incident, one red bulb will be replaced by one white bulb on the wreath. This campaign will continue until New Year’s Day.

The department also shared safety tips including avoiding overloaded outlets, keeping holiday trees watered, blowing out candles before going to sleep, testing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, keeping matches and lighters out of reach of children, and using only seasoned wood and approved fire starters for fireplaces.
