Cornell Votes Aims for 90% Student Voter Participation

Staff Report / FLXlocal.org

Cornell University in Ithaca reports that the nonpartisan student group Cornell Votes is actively working to register students to vote in the upcoming U.S. elections on November 5. The group consists of approximately 100 students focused on increasing electoral participation among their peers.

Camille Simmons, president of Cornell Votes and a student at Cornell Dyson, emphasized the group's mission, stating, "We genuinely want every person to be able to voice their opinion, to engage with the issues and to be able to say that they’re actually participating, making a difference and doing their civic duty."

This year, Cornell Votes has set a goal to achieve a 90% participation rate among eligible students and aims to continue the upward trend in voter turnout.
