**National Preparedness Month Encourages Safety in Columbus**

September is recognized as National Preparedness Month, a time to remind residents of Columbus to plan for emergencies. The Columbus Division of Police emphasizes the importance of being ready for unexpected situations.

Residents are encouraged to create a car emergency kit. Essential items to include are blankets, jumper cables, flares, an ice scraper, and an extra cell phone charger. Keeping a full tank of gas in vehicles is also advised, as it can be crucial for quick evacuations or during power outages.

Drivers are warned to exercise caution when encountering road obstacles, such as deep water or downed power lines. In such cases, calling for help is recommended.

For those who carry firearms in their vehicles, it is important to store them safely in a proper lock box to prevent break-ins.

Mayor Andrew J. Gintner supports these initiatives and encourages residents to ensure they have the necessary plans in place for any emergencies. For more information, residents can refer to the Columbus Division of Police’s communications on social media platforms.
