Laser Aimed at Tucson Police Aircraft Causes Arrest

Staff Report / Tucsonlocal.org

Tucson, AZ – The Tucson Police Department (TPD) has issued a reminder about the dangers and legal repercussions of aiming a laser at an aircraft. Last night, TPD's Air Unit pilots experienced temporary blindness when a high-powered blue laser was directed at them multiple times while patrolling in the area of 29th Street and Columbus.

Officers arrested 31-year-old Tobias Turner, who allegedly attempted to flee the scene and discarded the laser over a wall. Turner is facing felony charges in connection with the laser incident, as well as charges for possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

Fortunately, the pilots were not injured during the incident. TPD emphasized that pointing a laser at aircraft is a serious crime that can endanger lives.
