**Spotlight on Deputy Anibal Pizarro for National Hispanic Heritage Month**

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office is highlighting Deputy Anibal Pizarro. Deputy Pizarro was raised in Loiza, Puerto Rico, and moved to the United States at the age of 15. He attended Fowler and Nottingham schools in Onondaga County.

His interest in law enforcement was influenced by his father, a police officer in Puerto Rico. Deputy Pizarro holds an associate degree in criminal justice, specializing in juvenile delinquency, from Onondaga Community College. He also earned a bachelor's degree in Homeland Security from Cazenovia College.

Deputy Pizarro began his career at the Hillbrook Detention Facility and later served as a teaching assistant in the city school district. He joined the Department of Corrections in 2008 and has received multiple awards, including Employee of the Month honors, a medal of merit, and recognition from U.S. Representative John M. Katko and the Red Cross for his heroic actions in 2017.

In addition to his duties, Deputy Pizarro is a member of Jamesville’s Emergency Response Team and is a Certified Instructor. He also contributes by translating documents into Spanish for incarcerated individuals.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office recognizes and thanks Deputy Pizarro for his commitment and service to the community.
