Wake County Expands SHARE Program to More Schools

Wake County Public Schools in Apex, North Carolina, are expanding the SHARE (Stop Hunger and Restore Earth) Program to 10 additional schools. The program expansion is made possible by a second grant from the Lonnie and Carol Poole Family Foundation, along with additional donor support.

Starting in the 2025–26 school year, the program will launch in the following schools: Apex Elementary, Briarcliff Elementary, Cary Elementary, Douglas Magnet Elementary, Lufkin Road Middle, Moore Square Magnet Middle, North Garner Middle, Partnership Magnet Elementary, Underwood Magnet Elementary, and Wake Forest Middle. Four of these are middle schools.

The SHARE Program allows students to leave or take approved, unopened food items during breakfast and lunch. These items are stored on a central pantry cart and in a fridge available throughout the day. The program is designed to provide students with nutritious options to stay fueled and focused while also reducing food waste.
