Wake County Outlines Stormwater Design Manual Steps for Developers
Wake County outlines stormwater design manual steps for developers
WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Wake County Government says it is continuing its Stormwater Design Manual series. The latest installment covers the overall process for what developers and builders need to do before, during and after construction.
- Plan ahead. Pre-submittal meetings and checklists help ensure projects meet local, state and federal requirements before work begins. Pre-submittal meetings can be requested at wake.gov/WMhelp, and checklists are at wake.gov/WMdocs.
- Complete a Stormwater Impact Analysis. Every project requires a professional analysis covering land disturbance, impervious surfaces, streams, buffers, wetlands and flood hazard areas.
- Get your permits. Applications are submitted online through the Wake County permit portal; approvals are required, and a pre-construction meeting must occur before permits are issued and any ground breaking can occur.
- Post a financial guarantee. Developers may need to set aside funds to ensure stormwater improvements are completed to the standards set by local ordinances and state regulations.
- Follow through after construction. As-built certifications, inspections and recorded maintenance agreements ensure stormwater controls keep working long term.
This process protects streams, lakes and drinking water while supporting responsible growth across Wake County.

Apex, N.C. — City officials urge residents to recycle correctly to prevent contamination of curbside recyclables, noting electronics should be taken to the South Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility at 6130 Old Smithfield Rd.
