APEX, N.C. — Two Wake County Public School System bus drivers earned top finishes at the annual North Carolina School Bus Driving Competition, also known as the School Bus Roadeo, held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.

Jorge Ubior Rosado earned first place, and Clay Fogleman took second, outperforming dozens of the state’s best school bus drivers.

Competitors are tested on their knowledge of school bus laws and regulations and must demonstrate driving skill through a series of precision driving challenges.

Because of his first-place finish, Rosado, who serves schools in the Holly Springs transportation district, qualified for the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition in Austin, Texas. He will not compete due to a prior commitment. Fogleman, who serves the Millbrook transportation district, will represent both the district and the state at the international competition on June 27–28 in Austin.

Three other WCPSS drivers qualified for this year’s state competition: Monica Houser, Rodney Street and Matthew Monk.

All of the district’s drivers were cheered on at the NC State Fairgrounds by Transportation Department colleagues. The district thanked transportation professionals for their dedication, skill and commitment to safely transporting students every day and encouraged readers to join in congratulating these drivers.
