**Linden Honors 9/11 Heroes with Ceremony at Wanda Anita Green Memorial**

LINDEN, NJ -- Linden Public Schools held a ceremony on the evening of September 11 to honor the victims of the September 11 attacks, including local hero Wanda Anita Green, at the Wanda Anita Green Memorial Park. The ceremony began at 6:30 p.m., marked by the sound of bagpipes from the Central Jersey Pipes & Drums while uniformed officers and firefighters stood at attention.

Earlier in the day, at 8:46 a.m., students and residents paused for a moment of silence coinciding with the time when the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Firehouse No. 1 conducted a bell-tolling ceremony at 10:00 a.m. in remembrance of first responders who lost their lives that day.

Wanda Anita Green, a flight attendant on United Airlines Flight 93, was remembered for her heroic efforts during the hijacking of the plane. Along with other passengers, she fought back against the hijackers, preventing further destruction and leading to the crash of the aircraft in Pennsylvania.

Around 100 community members attended the evening ceremony which featured tributes from local officials, musical performances, and a Pledge of Allegiance led by the Linden High School ROTC. Senior Abigail Armstead sang the national anthem at the start of the event.

Council President Michele Yamakaitis emphasized the importance of remembering Green and others lost on 9/11. Mayor Derek Armstead discussed the resilience and transformation of the nation following the attacks, while Linden Police Chief David Hart and Fire Chief William Haskio highlighted the bravery of first responders, including the 343 New York City firefighters who died that day.

The evening concluded with a bell-tolling ceremony honoring all who perished, and the lighting of a candle by Mayor Armstead and Council President Yamakaitis, symbolizing hope and unity in the community.

This ceremony served to express gratitude for the sacrifices made by first responders and to reinforce the strength of the community in the face of tragedy.
