From September 15 to October 15, cities across the United States, including Spartanburg, South Carolina, are celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. This observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson. Twenty years later, it was extended to a month by President Ronald Reagan.

This period is significant as it includes important dates for several Latin American countries. Specifically, it marks the Independence Days of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile.

National Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the rich and diverse cultures of Hispanic and Latin American people, as well as their contributions and achievements in the United States.
