Man Arrested After Child Care Center Trespass Attempt

Staff Report / pittlocal.org

On Friday, September 13, 2024, officers from Zone 4 of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police responded to reports of attempted trespassing at a locked child care center located on the 5600 block of Solway Street. The caller reported observing a male suspect who crossed an alley and entered an apartment building.

Officers made contact with the male through the door of a second-floor apartment. He stated that he was staying there with a friend. After detaining him for the attempted trespass and potential burglary, police conducted a protective sweep of the apartment. During the sweep, they found multiple firearms, narcotics, and related paraphernalia in plain view. A search warrant was subsequently obtained.

The search revealed nine firearms, which included four long rifles and five handguns, along with ammunition, marijuana, mushrooms, packaging materials, suspected fentanyl, and over $2,200 in cash.

Travis Hickly, 34, was arrested at the scene due to several outstanding warrants and faces multiple felony charges related to firearms and narcotics, as well as charges for criminal attempt trespass and providing false identification to law enforcement. He was taken to Allegheny County Jail. Additionally, a warrant has been issued for 24-year-old Michael Olds for conspiracy, unlawful possession, and prohibited acts.

Police stated there is no evidence to suggest any direct or indirect threat to the child care center, and the attempted trespass incident is regarded as isolated. The investigation remains ongoing.
