**DWI Arrest in Yates County**

YATES COUNTY, NY – Donald G. Symer, a 71-year-old resident of Rochester, was arrested on October 19, 2024, following a vehicle pursuit and suspected driving while intoxicated (DWI) incident.

According to the Yates County Sheriff's Office, the incident began at 6:41 PM on Voak Road in the Town of Potter. Deputies were conducting a traffic stop on South Street in Gorham when Symer's vehicle passed by at a high rate of speed, reportedly crossing the center line multiple times.

Following this, Symer allegedly led deputies on a pursuit that reached speeds exceeding 100 mph, continuing into the Town of Gorham. The pursuit ended when deputies were able to stop Symer's vehicle.

After the stop, deputies conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests on Symer, leading to his arrest. He was subsequently transported to the Public Safety Building for a chemical test. Symer was later released on tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Potter Court at a later date.

Symer faces several charges, including DWI (both common law and .08 or greater), unlawfully fleeing a police officer in the third degree, reckless driving, two counts of speed in zone violations, failure to keep right, failure to use due care for an emergency vehicle, and failure to comply with a lawful order.

The incident involved the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, with Sgt. Chisom and Dep. Garren on the scene, and assistance from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.

The report was submitted to the press and social media on October 20, 2024, at 2:15 AM by Sgt. Chisom.
