Record Traffic Expected on I-70 This Weekend

Staff Report /

**Increased I-70 Traffic Expected This Weekend for Ski and Snowboard Travelers**

Denver, Colorado – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has issued a travel alert for the upcoming weekend of January 3 to January 5, 2024, due to anticipated record-breaking traffic on Interstate 70. Heavy snowfall in the mountains is expected to draw large numbers of ski and snowboard enthusiasts, leading to significant traffic delays along the I-70 mountain corridor.

The busiest areas are forecasted to be near the Eisenhower Johnson Memorial Tunnels, with delays likely in both directions, particularly between Summit County and the Front Range. Peak congestion is expected on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

To help mitigate delays, CDOT encourages travelers to utilize various resources and transportation alternatives:

- Visit [COtrip.org](https://cotrip.org) or download the #COtrip Planner app for up-to-date road conditions.

- Consider booking services provided by Bustang, Snowstang, or Pegasus at [ridebustang.com](https://ridebustang.com).

- Ride the Winter Park Express train, which details can be found at [winterparkresort.com](https://winterparkresort.com/plan-your-trip/getting-here/winter-park-express).

- Share rides safely using the TreadShare app at [TreadShare link](https://linktr.ee/treadshare).

As snowy conditions and possible delays are expected, drivers and travelers are advised to plan ahead, stay informed, and travel safely. For further details, visit [Colorado DOT's website](https://www.codot.gov/news/2025/january/new-year-new-snow-new-traffic-records).
