**City of Akron to Launch Comprehensive Review of Use of Force Practices**

The City of Akron has announced plans to undertake a review of its use of force policies and practices following a series of incidents that have deeply impacted the community. These events, some involving loss of life, have strained relationships between residents and the police department, while also taking a toll on officer morale and the city’s budget.

According to a statement from the Mayor's Office, this review is a proactive step to address ongoing concerns and challenges surrounding police-community interactions. Akron’s mayor emphasized the need for immediate action, stating that waiting for another incident to occur while debating solutions is not an option.

“These incidents are costing our city both financially and emotionally,” the mayor said, noting the millions of dollars spent on settlements and the negative effects on trust and morale. The review, which the mayor characterized as a major and necessary effort, aims to assess and improve policies, practices, and the overall culture within the police department to prevent similar incidents in the future.

While specific details of the review process were not included in the statement, the city has provided a full FAQ document for residents to gain more information (accessible at https://bit.ly/3WRLrlB). The mayor concluded by urging the community to recognize the importance of this step for Akron's future, emphasizing that the stakes are too high to delay action any longer.

Residents and community members are encouraged to stay informed and engaged as the city undertakes this review to build a safer and more trusting environment for all.
