**Dr. Shirla McClain's Dissertation Highlights Black Visionaries in Akron**

Dr. Shirla McClain, a scholar and historian, completed groundbreaking research documenting the contributions of Black visionaries in Akron, Ohio. Her work, titled *The Contribution of Blacks in Akron’s History: 1825-1975*, was published as part of her doctoral dissertation.

Dr. McClain's research stands out because it was conducted during a time when there were no documented records or comprehensive histories of the contributions of Black individuals in Akron. She took on the challenge by collecting and verifying data, uncovering the stories, events, key personalities, rituals, and myths of the Black community in the city.

Her dissertation serves as a valuable resource, preserving the rich history and significant impact of the Black community in Akron over a 150-year period. The project has been recognized as an integral contribution to local history.

Dr. McClain's work ensures that the efforts and vision of Akron's Black leaders and residents are remembered and honored. This focus on documenting and preserving Black history has been highlighted during Black History Month.
