**Officer-Involved Shooting in Akron, Ohio**
AKRON, OH — This morning, Akron Police responded to a critical incident involving an officer-involved shooting. The incident began around 8:45 AM when dispatch received a report of a stolen vehicle, described as a white Toyota Camry. Officers located the vehicle near Kenmore Boulevard and Lakeshore Boulevard and attempted a traffic stop.
According to the report, the driver of the stolen vehicle fired at the officers, who then returned fire. The driver, a man in his 30s, was struck at least once. Officers on the scene attempted emergency first aid until EMS arrived. Despite these efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have not yet released his identity pending family notification and positive identification.
The three officers involved, with service tenures ranging from nine to 30 years, have been placed on paid administrative leave in line with departmental procedures.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) is handling the investigation and will submit their findings to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office for review. Subsequently, the case will be evaluated by the Summit County Grand Jury. Additionally, the Akron Police Office of Professional Standards and Accountability is conducting an internal investigation, the findings of which will be provided to the police chief and the City of Akron Police Auditor.
No further information has been released, and the incident remains under investigation.
