**Akron Area YMCA Highlights Jackie Robinson’s Contributions During Black History Month**

The Akron Area YMCA in Ohio is sharing a reflection during Black History Month about Jackie Robinson's profound impact both on and off the baseball field. In 1947, Robinson made history by breaking Major League Baseball's color barrier, becoming the league’s first Black player. This pivotal moment marked a significant step in the fight for racial equality within professional sports.

That same year, Robinson extended his influence beyond baseball by volunteering as a boys' coach at the Harlem YMCA. Together with fellow baseball teammate Roy Campanella, the two served as mentors and leaders within the community. Their involvement demonstrated a commitment to fostering opportunities and inspiration for young boys.

This reflection is part of the YMCA's recognition of contributions and achievements within Black history, aiming to honor, reflect, and celebrate individuals who shaped the course of progress.
