**Body-Worn Camera Footage Released from Officer-Involved Shooting in Akron, Ohio**

The Akron Police Department today released body-worn camera footage providing further details about an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, February 17. The footage highlights the challenges officers faced during the incident, which involved Marcus Smith, who was armed and fired repeatedly. No other casualties resulted from the event.

During the incident, officers attempted to stop Smith in what became a dangerous situation. Mayor of Akron expressed gratitude that no additional lives were lost. "My thoughts are with all of the responding officers as they process this traumatic encounter, with the neighborhood residents who witnessed it, and with our officers who begin shifts each day knowing that they may have to respond to a similar call," said the Mayor.

Over recent days, local media reported on Marcus Smith's life, shedding light on his struggles with mental health. The Mayor extended condolences to Smith’s family and acknowledged his challenges, while also asserting that harmful or deadly actions are not justifiable.

For those in the community dealing with mental health struggles, the City of Akron emphasized the importance of seeking support. Residents can reach out for assistance 24/7 by calling 2-1-1 or texting their zip code to 898-211 to connect with mental health resource providers.

The full statement regarding the incident, as well as the body-worn camera footage, can be accessed through the Akron Mayor’s Office Facebook page.
