Akron Launches Kent Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project

The City of Akron announced a rehabilitation project for the Kent Street Bridge over the Little Cuyahoga River. The project will include a new bridge deck with a 5-foot sidewalk on both sides, a connecting sidewalk between N. Case Avenue and the new bridge deck, and a new pedestrian crossing across N. Case Avenue. Curb ramps that are missing or in poor condition, or that do not meet ADA standards, will also be constructed or replaced.

Construction is expected to begin in 2025. During the construction period, a vehicular detour will be in place with northbound vehicles rerouted down N. Case Avenue to E. Market Street, while southbound vehicles will be directed in the opposite direction. Temporary walkways will be provided to allow pedestrian access around the work area if needed. Access to properties in the vicinity of the project will be maintained throughout construction.

Residents and other interested parties are invited to comment on issues related to the project, including its impact on the local community, economic concerns, air quality, floodplains, and historic or cultural resources. Questions, comments, and concerns can be sent via email to SBlizzard@akronohio.gov.
