NYU Project OutReach: Engaging Students in Community Service

Staff Report / nyclocal.org

Last week, 110 new NYU students participated in NYU Project OutReach, a program that promotes community engagement. One of the service projects included volunteering at the Housing Works Inc. bookstore on Crosby Street, which supports healthcare services for low-income New Yorkers. Staffed by volunteers and filled with donated items, the bookstore contributes 100% of its profits to the cause. Other projects involved tree stewardship in parks, assisting LGBTQ+ elders, organizing library resources, and supporting community programs. Project OutReach is available to incoming first-year and transfer NYU students, as well as those with two or fewer semesters at NYU.
