Auburn Schools Address Increased Security Measures Today

Staff Report / FLXlocal.org

The Auburn Police Department is investigating a social media post that allegedly contained threats related to the Auburn Junior High School. The department has held discussions with Superintendent Dr. Misty Slavic about increasing patrols around all Auburn schools in response to the concerns.

Auburn police are advising parents to talk to their children about the seriousness of making threats and the importance of reporting such incidents. They noted that reposting threats complicates their investigation into the original source and intention of the messages.

In a communication to the school community, the Auburn Enlarged City School District indicated that they are taking the threats seriously and are working closely with law enforcement to ensure student and staff safety. As a precaution, the district is implementing several safety measures:

- Increased police presence inside and outside school buildings during the day.

- Additional staff members will be on-site to assist with monitoring.

- A single designated entry point for all students, staff, and visitors to enhance security.

School counselors are available to support anyone feeling anxious about the situation. The district requested that everyone exercise caution on social media, as misinformation can create unnecessary fear. They clarified that there was no direct threat to the district and that the social media post in question was repurposed.

The Auburn Enlarged City School District administration thanked the community for their understanding and cooperation in maintaining a safe school environment.
