**Downtown Barberton to Receive Major Renovation with Historic Tax Credit Approval**
*By Bob Morehead, BGNN Senior Staff Writer*
BARBERTON – A long-neglected section of downtown Barberton is on the verge of a significant transformation. The Herald/Cox/Powell buildings, located at the intersection of Wooster Road North and Tuscarawas Avenue, are now set for restoration after developers secured a historic preservation tax credit entering 2024.
Barberton Mayor William Judge described the tax credit as a milestone, noting it is the first historic tax credit ever issued for the city. The tax credit is a critical step in funding this downtown renovation project. "This is the biggest thing that has happened in Barberton," Judge said.
This project marks a turning point in revitalizing the city’s downtown area, addressing what has long been considered an eyesore.

*By Christina McCune, BGNN Managing Editor*
BARBERTON – Synchronized swimmers at the Lake Anna YMCA are celebrating a major upgrade to their program's infrastructure. VFW Post 1066 recently donated $5,000 to purchase a new speaker system for the YMCA’s synchronized swimming clinics.
These clinics, hosted by the Lake Anna YMCA Community Center, offer classes to promote aquatic skills and teamwork. The upgraded audio equipment will enhance coaching and practice sessions, providing a better experience for participants.
The expanded program aims to support more young athletes in developing a love for synchronized swimming and community involvement.
